The Generative
Systems Program at The Art Institute of Chicago 1970-1980
From 1970 to
1980, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago offered an undergraduate
and graduate program called Generative Systems. Starting as a single
course it gradually became a full undergraduate and graduate program
in synchronization with social and technological change. Generative
Systems served as one model of art/science/technology education.
In May 2007 the Langlois Foundation published a comprehensive overview of Generative Systems by Kathryn Farley, Langlois Fellow. This includes video, sound, still images and writings in the collection of the Langlois Foundation.
